Privacy Information
This is an interim privacy notice, not a completed privacy policy. We are keeping this page out of search while we verify the website’s hosting and data-handling details. Please do not send sensitive personal information through this website.
About this website
Pest.gg publishes pest-control guides and information about the Pest.gg project. The current site does not offer account registration or checkout. The newsletter signup form sends the email address you enter to Kit, described below. The contact dialog only shows our email address; it does not submit a message to a website form.
We do not use Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, advertising trackers or session replay. The only analytics tool on this site is Umami, described in the next section.
Newsletter (Kit)
If you sign up for new-guide emails, the email address you enter is sent to Kit (Kit.com, formerly ConvertKit), the service we use to store the list and send the emails. Kit sends you a confirmation email first. We use your address only to email you about new guides and updates to Pest.gg; we do not sell it or share it with advertisers. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us at ez@pest.gg to remove you. Kit processes the address under its own privacy policy.
Visit statistics (Umami)
This website uses Umami Cloud, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits in aggregate. Statistics are collected only on pest.gg.
Umami receives:
- the page you view (its path, plus any
utm_campaign tags the link carried, such asutm_source=newsletter; every other query string and#fragment is removed) and the page title; - the website that sent you here (for other websites, only the domain, such as
https://www.google.com); - your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and browser language;
- an approximate location (country, region and city) derived from your IP address;
- interaction events: which links and guide cards you click (the page they lead to, only the domain for other websites, or only the fact that you clicked an email link, never the address), which sections you jump to from the contents list, which FAQ answers and the Sources list you open, which filters and sort options you use in the guide and Pest Library lists, how far down a page you scroll (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), whether the DIY cost summary and the “when to call a pro” part of a guide come into view, when you submit a newsletter form (not the email address), and when a page is not found. These events carry only page types, page paths and fixed labels, never page text or anything you type, except site search below;
- the words you type into the site search box, reduced first: lowercased, limited to letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and apostrophes, at most 60 characters, and dropped entirely if they contain an “@” or a run of five or more digits. We use them to learn which guides people look for and don’t find; plus how many results the search showed (as a range) and which result you clicked;
Umami does not set cookies. It does not receive names, email addresses or anything you type into the site, other than the reduced site-search words described above. According to Umami’s documentation, your IP address is used to work out the approximate location and to count visits, but is never stored. To count unique visitors without cookies, Umami combines technical details of the request (such as our website ID, the site’s hostname, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string) into a one-way hash with a salt that changes at the start of every month, and groups page views into visits with a salt that changes every hour. We use these statistics to see which guides are read and improved, not to identify anyone.
Umami Cloud processes and stores these statistics on our behalf, under its own terms and privacy policy. Data is kept for as long as our Umami account’s settings retain it.
How to opt out: turn on your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting; the Umami script checks it and sends nothing. You can also block cloud.umami.is with a content blocker. To stop measurement in one browser without changing its settings, open the browser console on pest.gg and run localStorage.setItem('umami.disabled', '1').
Information you choose to send
If you email us at ez@pest.gg, we receive the email address and the message you choose to send. We use that information to read and respond to your inquiry. Email providers involved in sending or receiving the message may also process it under their own terms and privacy notices.
Website delivery and security
The website is delivered through web-hosting and content-delivery infrastructure. Those providers may process technical request information to deliver pages, protect the service, and diagnose failures. We are still confirming the providers, the exact information involved, and applicable retention periods; those details must be added to the full policy after verification.
Third-party websites
Our guides may link to other websites. Those websites operate under their own privacy practices, which we do not control. Review their privacy notices before sharing information with them.
Questions or privacy requests
For a privacy question or request concerning an email you sent to Pest.gg, contact ez@pest.gg. We will review the request and respond through the contact details you provide.
Details still being verified
Before this page can become a final privacy policy, Pest.gg must confirm its responsible legal entity and contact details, hosting and service providers, server-log practices and retention, any newsletter tools, applicable jurisdictions, and the process for handling privacy requests. This page will remain noindex until those facts have been reviewed.
Embedded videos
Some guides embed a YouTube video in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). The video loads only when you scroll to it, and YouTube may set cookies or collect data once you play it, under Google’s privacy policy.
